One year since the Fukushima disaster began, let the facts speak on nuclear power
11 Mar 2012 | Scott Ludlam

This Sunday, on the first anniversary of the beginning of the disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, the Australian Greens will launch ‘Let The Facts Speak', a comprehensive indictment on the tragic history of nuclear power.

It is the fourth edition of Let The Facts Speak, a publication first produced in 1990 to raise awareness about the dangers of nuclear power. Greens spokesperson on nuclear affairs, Senator Scott Ludlam, said the folly of nuclear power had been demonstrated repeatedly by history.

"After every disaster, the nuclear industry and its allies in government rally their forces to defend the indefensible. Shallow excuses are offered up to deny the undeniable: nuclear power is not clean, it is not cheap and it is not safe."

Let The Facts Speak will be launched at ‘Remembering Fukushima', an event marking the disaster beginning at 1pm at the Perth Cultural Centre. Senator Ludlam will be one of nine speakers including Akiko san, a Perth-based former Fukushima resident who has been raising funds to assist those affected by the disaster in their hometown.

"On this somber anniversary we will renew our efforts to bring the nuclear age to a close," Senator Ludlam said.
