Citizens' Nuclear Information Center is an anti-nuclear public interest organization dedicated to securing a safe, nuclear-free world. The Center was formed to provide reliable information and public education on all aspects of nuclear power to ultimately realize this goal. CNIC was established in 1975 in Tokyo to collect and analyze information related to nuclear energy including safety, economic, and proliferation issues and to conduct studies and research on such issues. During 1995-97, the center spearheaded an independent study on mixed uranium-plutonium oxide (MOX) fuel with a number of prominent researchers from Europe, the U.S.A., and Japan. The Research Director of the International MOX Assessment (IMA) project, Dr. Jinzaburo Takagi, together with the Research Sub-Director, Mycle Schneider, received the Right Livelihood Award for this study and activities relating to plutonium issues. The results of this project have been published in Japanese, English, French, and Russian.

We are a citizens’ advocacy group campaigning to hold a national referendum about the future of nuclear power in Japan. We are not a group “in favor of” or “against” nuclear power. We wish that this decision be made by the citizens of this country. Each member of our group is free to express his or her candid opinion about nuclear power.
Metropolitan Coalition Against Nukes was formed in September 2011 from a network of groups and individuals that want to see a safer and brighter future for Japan, and hence the world, by eliminating nuclear power generation. We actively organize peaceful marches, rallies and other public events disseminating information about why the nuclear power industry must be stopped.
