C2. Uranium Shovel. This steel claw sits in the Key Lake open-pit uranium mine. Canada is the world’s largest producer and exporter of uranium. From 1941 until 1972, Canada sold all of its uranium to the US nuclear weapons program. Since then, government policy requires that Canadian uranium be sold only for peaceful purposes. Gaertner Pit, Key Lake Mine, Northern Saskatchewan, Canada. 17 September 1986.
