Nuclear research and nuclear industry have managed to grow and survive because of highly favourable structures found in international law and institutions.
For this reason PLAGE (Platform Against Nuclear Dangers, Salzburg) has initiated a process aimed at the adjustment of international law to the true dimensions of nuclear risks. With the industry fiercely trying to make a comeback, such a process appears ever more urgent and long overdue.
Therefore, PLAGE held an international expert and NGO conference on "Updating International Nuclear Law" in Salzburg in the autumn of 2005. The conference was prepared in cooperation with Jon VAN DYKE (University of Hawaii, USA) and Michael GEISTLINGER (University of Salzburg, Austria), both professors of international law.
