E3. Glove Box for Handling Plutonium.

E3. Glove Box for Handling Plutonium. Plutonium is an alpha emitter. It can be handled, but only with great care. This glove box provides a sealed environment that is kept under negative pressure and filled with inert gas to keep the plutonium inside from igniting in air. Glove box workers must wear anti-contamination clothing and handle plutonium through rubber gloves attached to the wall of the box. Inhaling, ingesting, or absorbing minute quantities of plutonium can be deadly. Plutonium Finishing Plant, Hanford Site, Washington. 17 December 1993.
