An assessment of the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the nuclear field within the European Union (Aarhus Convention and Nuclear - ACN) was initiated in 2009 by the National Association of Local Commissions of Information (ANCCLI), in partnership with the Directorate General for Energy and Transport (DG ENER) of the European Commission and the European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF).

After a kick-off workshop on the 24th and 25th of June 2009, at the premises of the European Commission in Luxembourg, the European Commission and ANCCLI agreed on organising thematic European round tables. 

The first European round table about the Implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the radioactive waste management field was hold in Luxembourg on the 8th and 9th of April 2010 in the premises of the European Commission and gathered 80 participants from 15 European countries.

The second European roundtable, organised by the Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN), ANCCLI and the European Commission will be held on the 20th and 21st of January 2011, in Luxembourg, on the theme of Access to expertise and competence building. In this perspective IRSN, ANCCLI and the European Commission wish you could attend this second round table. Please find enclosed the preliminary programme and the reply coupon for both days.
